THE SANITY CIRCUS
THE SANITY CIRCUS is a circus-themed, action, fantasy webcomic that follows Attley Grimshaw, a perfectly normal girl, living a perfectly normal life until she finds out that maybe she’s pretty much the farthest thing from normal there is. Turns out her best friend is a walking, murdering incarnation of a phobia in physical form. Fleeing from her, Attley tumbles into a wild adventure where she meets a boy who can shape-shift, some instrumen, a whole circus troupe and secret organisations.

Its nightmare after nightmare, but slowly the pieces start to come together, and it turns out Attley’s normal life is never going to be normal again.

THE CAST
ATTLEY
Attley Grimshaw (she/her) is naive, reckless, and stubborn, but she’s also loyal and determined. Empathizing with others isn’t a strong suit for her, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t try. She’s now trying to find answers about the city and, more importantly, about herself.
FLETCH
Fletch Gray (he/him) acts cold and distant, but the reality is deep down has a good heart. He uses magic to shift into a seagull, which he has done so much now that his hair has become feathers, and has seagull features on his face.
POSEY
Posey Morris (she/her) was Attley’s friend, but it turns out she had other motives. Although she looks like a young girl, she’s really one of the handful of Scarecrow that have returned to haunt the city. Just what does she want with Attley, though?
SAMMY
Sammy Talbot (he/him) is, like Posey, one of the Scarecrow–creatures that use fear to target and feed on humans. Although he’s very powerful, he is pretty naive, and often is the one going along with someone else’s plan rather than his own.
STEVEN
Steven Anton-Frans (he/him) is one of the instrumen: instruments that have been given life to become like humans, with abilities and weapons to defend the city–in this case, a flute. He is very, very proud of himself–maybe a bit more than he should be…
NIMBUS, LUTH, BEE
Nimbus Owens (he/him) is the heir to the city. After the death of the Director, he should be next in line but… he’s AWOL.
Luth (they/them) is another instruman, this time a cello. They are very cunning but also might like the sound of their own voice too much.
Bee (she/her) is a clown in Donovan Sparc’s Magical Circus, her sweet caring temper being enough to distract from the magical mishap that left her body disjointed.
DONOVAN, TEDLEY, RIOS
Donovan Sparc (he/him) is an ex-shifter who runs the well-known Donovan Sparc’s Magical Circus. It seems, though, he has a little more to his backstory.
Dr. Tedley King (he/him) is a man who has ties all the way up to the Director, but perhaps has his hands in much more.
Miss Rios (she/her) is the head of the Nameless Organization, an underground group that handles all things magic. She’s a little flighty and her curiosity usually gets the better of her.
THE PAGES
IN PRINT
THE SANITY CIRCUS VOL.1
There were plans to print the entire comic in 3 books of roughly 300 pages each but as the comic progressed, the task started to feel a bit too big for the two of us to handle. A lot of the pages weren’t formatted quite right for print which meant going through and formatting all of those to fit 300 dpi. Safe to say this comic works best in its natural form: a webcomic. No shame in that!
THE SANITY CIRCUS was also originally printed through KA-BLAM! as these individual chapter releases. Gave them a fun zine feel way back when!
THE ARTBOOK
Who doesn’t like to see the work that went into the final thing?
THE ART OF THE SANITY CIRCUS
When we printed the first collected volume of SanCirc, we also offered a stretch goal to print an artbook with all of the illustrations Tas had made in the years spent working on and up to the comic itself.
It was a really neat thing to have on the table for a few years alongside the first volume. Some of the artwork in this book & PDF can’t be found anywhere else (not even in our hard-drives woops.)
THE MERCHANDISE
(to be updated soon!)
WHERE CAN I GET MY HANDS ON THIS?
Right now, the only place to read this back to front is online on SanCirc’s website + downloading the PDF. We’re hoping to one day offer the full thing as either a download or a proper post on the website but we haven’t decided what works best yet. For now you can follow these links and dig around for the way that works best for you.
